Jim Steggles, Provincial Grand Master of the Province of West Yorkshire, was looking for support for a Cycle Challenge in aid of their 2023 Festival. This came to the attention of the Durham Mark Benevolent Fund.
Although the event could have raised funds for our Province as well as theirs, the timing of the event in the summer of 2020 in the midst of our Centenary celebrations was slightly inconvenient.
However, in the spirit of support and co-operation which exists between Durham and our neighbours, it was decided to make a gesture of support. The Royal Ark Mariner Investiture Meeting on December 10th at Great Queen Street, London, provided the ideal opportunity to make a donation of £500 towards the West Yorkshire Cycle Challenge.
The picture shows the presentation of the cheque to Jim Steggles by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Durham, David Hanson, in the presence of the Provincial Grand Charity Steward, Roy Neville.
